Most ferry operators will allow you to travel with a rental car. Don't worry if you don't know the exact vehicle you'll rent; you can enter an approximate size when searching for your ferry tickets.
It's a good idea to check with the car rental company before you travel to make sure that they will allow you to take the car on a ferry.
How to book with a rental car:
- Choose the type of vehicle you're going to rent (car or van)
- Choose a vehicle make and model closest to what you'll rent or choose 'other' in the vehicle make drop-down menu and then enter an approximate length and height.
- When you checkout, put the registration number as 'unknown
Some ferry companies may charge a small fee to update the registration. You can do this at the port or update your booking online in My Account before you travel.
