The EES (Entry/Exit System) is a new digital border control system being introduced across the EU. It is designed to register non-EU nationals travelling for short stays to any of the 29 EU countries.
Instead of having your passport stamped, you may have your fingerprints and a photo taken the first time you travel after 12 October 2025. This new process will make border checks faster and more secure once fully implemented.
The system is being rolled out gradually to minimise any impact on travellers and is expected to be fully operational in all 29 EU countries by 9 April 2026.
As this is a new process, it may cause longer check-in or border control times. If you are a non-EU national travelling to an EU country, we recommend allowing extra time at the port to complete these checks.
